I originally created this blog so that I could share my cardmaking ideas and projects, but as I survey the mess I've made in this room, I had to tell myself "first things first"---clean up the room first so that my creativity will flourish. So, over the next few months, I'll be entering blogs on the progress of the organization of my craft room. This is a spare-bedroom-turned-craftroom which has been reduced to a junk heap due to the disorganization of my numerous rubber stamps and other craft items and equipment. I don't normally share my angst over this situation publicly, but I think it's time for a little self-embarrassment to give me the incentive to finally, in the words of Larry the Cable Guy, "git 'er done". Don't get me wrong...I've cleaned it up many times, but because I haven't developed an attitude of "a place for everything, and everything in its place" it gets overwhelming. I’m continually purchasing items and equipment for my cardmaking without having a proper place for them once I’m finished using them. I guess this whole situation is kinda like “the tail wagging the dog”. These pictures (my computer desk and my rubber stamp storage area) are a sneak peek into the problem...
TIP: When you decide on a designated space for your cardmaking/scrapbooking, make sure you know how you’ll store your craft items when you’re not using them.
I’m not sure where I’ll start, but since paper/mail/books are the main problem, this looks like a good place to begin. If I take the time to categorize all my materials, I may organize according to the type of item, i.e. paper, mail, rubber stamps, diecut/embossing machines and accessories. When I discover little gems of advice in my journey, I will gladly pass them on to you. What do you think? I welcome all suggestions and comments.
